Geological Survey Division
The role of the Geological Survey Division is to understand PNG's
complex geological environment in order to promote more minerals,
petroleum and groundwater exploration, and to identify the causes
and mechanisms of geological hazards. In addition the Division has a
responsibility to maintain and enlarge an earth resources database so
that exploration risk and expenditure by the mining sector is reduced
and PNG is more attractive to investment.
These functions are implemented
by four Branches:
Geological Mapping and Mineral Surveys,
Geophysical Surveys,
Geotechnical & Hydrogeological Survey,
and the Rabaul Volcano Observatory.
