Exploration Geophysics Group
The Exploration Geophysics Section is responsible for the collation and archiving of
Geophysical Data, whether it be analogue or digital.
Geophysical data is usually
obtained from large exploration companies that carry out exploration activities within
Papua New Guinea. These large-scale geophysical data usually comprises airborne magnetics
and radiometrics, and gravity. Both onshore and marine geophysical data are often acquired
in such large-scale surveys.
The Exploration Geophysics Section also helps out in
small detail surveys required by other Branches of the Geological Survey. Hydrogeological
and geotechnical surveys are often the most common survey types involved in. At times
magnetic and gravity surveys are carried out in aid of the Geological Mapping and Mineral
District Surveys Branch.
The Exploration Geophysics Section also involves itself in projects
of special interests like geothermal and heat flow studies.
