Volcanic eruptions in Papua New Guinea have been going on for many years. The first observations of eruptions were first made in late 1870s by early explorers who travelled past PNG. There is no information prior to this period. Since than more eruptions have occurred and documented. Based on this information, it is apparent that some volcanoes erupt more frequently (Manam, Ulawun, Langila and Bagana) than others (Lamington, Karkar and Pago).
